Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the daughter of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and the former political director of his presidential bid, has signed on with Tim Pawlenty?s 2012 campaign. She?ll hold the position of senior political adviser and start work today in Pawlenty?s Iowa headquarters.

Recruiting Sanders is an important symbolic move, as well as a substantive one, for Pawlenty, who is seeking to replicate the elder Huckabee?s 2008 victory in Iowa. The news of Sanders?s hire comes amid a major Iowa push from Team Pawlenty: They?re currently airing their second TV ad in the state and have sent out several mail pieces.
In addition to her work in the 2008 presidential race, Sarah Huckabee Sanders managed now-Arkansas. Sen. John Boozman?s 2010 campaign and served as a senior aide to Huck PAC, her father?s political action committee.
She said in a statement: ?I?m delighted to join the Governor and First Lady in Iowa, which holds a special place in my heart ? It?s clear to me that Gov. Pawlenty has what it takes to unite the party, unite the country and beat President Obama.?
In his own statement, Pawlenty emphasized that Sanders has a ?great track record in Iowa and around the country,? adding: ?We are very excited Sarah is joining our team just as we are hitting our stride in Iowa.?
