It is quite common to see expressions like, fantastic Mango Bay, and the fact that it is a very personable hotel, the word magnificent has even been heard recently.

If there is a problem with an all inclusive resort, it is the fact that the food and drink can be pretty average, but not here. Most reports are very complimentary about the excellent restaurant which has great choice and variety of food. Recommendations here could well be the duck, and the BBQ steak. The service also gets a big thumbs up, and the bar area is very relaxing with a good choice of drinks, which seem to be on tap whenever you need them!! A great thing on offer at The Mango Bay Resort is afternoon tea, such a beautiful English tradition.

The Mango Bay resort is definitely a place for sociable people, informal, and genuinely relaxed, allowing you to have a laid back family vacation at a very nice hotel in Barbados.. You will find right at the start of this particular all inclusive family vacation on Barbados that the moment you arrive at the Mango Bay resort you?ll be greeted with broad smiles, and a rum punch which could knock you sideaways, and you?ll be checked in with the minimum of fuss. The staff in reception and their friendly willingness to help is something you will find throughout the resort, and their efforts do make this particular Caribbean Vacation all the better for it. The rooms are good, with a large bed, and good toiletries in the en-suite. Everything here is clean neat, tidy, and comfortable.

You will find no real reason to leave the resort, because the watersports are good, you can go on the catamaran, and swim with the turtles, and availability of watersports isn?t a problem. If you do walk out of the resort, then the local shops and post office, and everything you might want to find are within ten minutes leisurely stroll.

You will find the nice clean swimming pool less crowded and quieter than the beach, and it is also within easy access of as many cocktails as you want, and of course it is all inclusive!!

Depending on the weather you may find a little bit of bother from the mossies from the lagoon. Some insect repellent is normally enough to ensure you go untroubled.

All in all The Mango Bay resort considering the price bracket is a much better hotel than its grading appears. It is an ideal destination for a budget conscious family seeking a lovely all inclusive Caribbean Vacation.

Video Game Maker Take-Two Extends Rockstar Games Contract

NEW YORK ? Video game maker Take-Two Interactive Software on Tuesday reported a wider quarterly loss and said it has extended its employment agreements with key members of the creative team of publishing label Rockstar Games, which is responsible for its Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption hit franchises.

The company also unveiled a renewal of its management agreement with ZelnickMedia, the investment vehicle of its chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick.

The company didn't detail specific terms of the Rockstar deal, but company executives said it had substantially the same terms as their previous deal. They also hinted that the collaboration would continue for several years.

Take-Two?s loss for the fiscal fourth quarter amounted to $22.4 million, compared with a year-ago loss of $9.7 million.

Revenue dropped 22 percent to $182.3 million as the year-ago period was buoyed by the firm?s latest Bioshock game release. But revenue exceeded Wall Street?s expectations. The company key sellers in the latest period were NBA 2K11, Top Spin 4, Major League Baseball 2K11 and continued sales of hit title Red Dead Redemption and GTA.

For the full fiscal year, profit from continuing operations amounted to $53.8 million, compared to a year-ago loss of $108.1 million. Revenue grew 49 percent to $1.14 billion.

For its new fiscal year that will end in March of 2012, Take-Two projected a profit of 10 cents to 35 cents per share on revenue of $1 billion-$1.1 billion, well below Wall Street?s average estimate. The company once again declined to say when the next GTA release may hit stores, but management said it expects profits for the next two years, including "substantial" profit growth in the year after the one that has just started due to a strong product pipeline.?

Zelnick said on an earnings conference call that his team was pleased to have posted a profit for the latest fiscal year despite the lack of a major GTA release. He also highlighted that the firm has exceeded its revenue and profit guidance for six quarters now.

Zelnick declined to give sales data for the recent release of cinematic game LA Noire. An analyst on the call mentioned reports of 1.6 million units sold in the first week. Zelnick just said the game was ?off to a very good start? and will be ?another strong franchise? for the company.

LA Noire is also a? major contender for the game of year award, he said. Asked about the recent PlayStation Network outage, he said it had no effect on the release.

Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery Kiss on 'Idol' Finale!

America may have been surprised that 17-year-old Scotty McCreery walked away with the title of season 10's American Idol. But one person who wasn't shocked? Runner-up Lauren Alaina.

"I knew Scotty was gonna win. I knew in my heart and I accepted it," the 16-year-old singer told reporters after the show. "I couldn't pick a more perfect person to get second place to. I know that's cheesy, but he's my best friend."

But after last night's show, it seems that the teen finalists just might be more than friends. When Ryan Seacrest first announced the news, Scotty turned to Lauren and gave her a big kiss on the lips!

"It's been a year since me and Lauren Alaina have tried out now," McCreery said. "Me and her have been together since day one and we're gonna stay together."

Whether or not that sentiment was meant in a romantic way is yet to be determined. But it definitely seems like sparks are flying between these two country crooners!

Shortly after the kiss, Entertainment Tonight asked Lauren directly about their relationship status. "He might be my boyfriend," she replied coyly. "Ask him."

But when reporters poised the question to Scotty, they got a different answer. The singer insisted he's still single. "We've gotten really close, but I don't know about the more than friends stuff," McCreery said.

So, McCreery may not be sure that Alaina is the one -- but he is sure of her talent. "Last night, watching her sing I thought she could really take this thing and run a long way with it," he said. "In that moment I kept saying, 'Lauren's got this. She's such a sweetheart, and we've grown so close.'"

Alaina was noticeably missing from many of the finale's stellar performances, which she attributed to being "under the weather." Admitting it was "a little disappointing," she said she was just thrilled that she got to sing with season 4 champ Carrie Underwood.

"She's so sweet and so talented. I've loved her since -- I picked her to win since her first audition. And she won, and I'm just so happy that I got to sing with her," Alaina said.

And now, with the Idol competition behind her, Alaina is ready to begin her own superstar journey. "I'm looking forward to going on tour and putting out an album and just being who I am."

Dissolved oxygen (DO) is the most important parameter to monitor in a pond or lake. In practice, the amount of oxygen in the pond. A good rule to determine whether the pond is to do enough, measured ppm (parts per million). A DO level of 4 ppm to 5 ppm is usually kept in the lower threshold for most ponds.

There are many problems associated with low dissolved oxygen:

* Fish kills ? most critical

*foul odors from anaerobic digestion of waste

* Stratification ? oxygen deficient layer of water on the pond bottom

What are the causes of low oxygen? There are several factors that contribute to those ponds in low-DO, including:

* In addition to the abundance of algae and aquatic plants that consume oxygen during the night

* High loads of organic waste

* In addition to fish population

If these issues are a problem for you then a pond adequate ventilation systemcould be a solution. If you have a pond or 8 feet deep or deeper is more likely to get up more out of a bubble diffuser system based on lower than air into the bottom of the pond and leave it. These systems allow for greater mixing of water column stratification and eliminated.

Well if you have a shallow pond, a surface aerator how it would be a good option. Pull water from the bottom of the upper surface of the ponds and sprayin the air. If water splashes on the lake creates an exchange of oxygen at the surface and helps to oxygenate the water a few meters above.

Pond aerators offer many advantages:

* The reduction and elimination of fish kills (due to lack of oxygen)

* The stimulation of economic aerobic bacteria

* Nutrients are not made available problem

* Blooms of algae are reduced due to the lack of available nutrients

* PreventionRevenues and the general improvement of water quality

* Reduced odors

Good ventilation of the right size pond is not cheap, but cost of alternative care and maintenance exceeds by far the costs and benefits of long-term ventilation. We strongly recommend that you be a competent person that the right system, and that it is too weak.

The Kill Zone: The ?Rapture? and Book Reviews

I had a book deadline for yesterday, and given most of the hype leading up to Saturday?s expected ?Rapture? (guffaw!), I kept looking out the window and wondering . . . so, if I?m gonna disintegrate at 6 p.m., do I really need to finish this final edit for Monday?

Now, stay with me here, you?ll see my point.

Since I knew the ?Rapture? prediction was hype, and that the hype was unreal (Why would I have a deadline for Monday if it was real? My editor surely would have known!), it started me thinking about the power of opinions.

Which led me to the power of book reviews. (My point, entirely, which Clare Langley-Hawthorne tapped into with her blog from yesterday. I wonder if she was thinking Rapture, as well?) So, to continue Clare?s conversation, I ask: Will Internet reviews be as powerful as the tried and true print and media reviews?

I say, hell yes.

From all the Internet marketing classes and webinars I?ve attended, the magic words are ?buzz?? and ?viral?. While TV interviews are the ultimate for books sales, I believe (hallelujah!) that Internet book reviews are another rapid means to get word out about a hot, new novel. Believe me, brothers and sisters. I am taking full advantage of online reviews. (Feeding the bees to make a buzz, you might say.)

I just received a 5-Star review on my self-pubbed, urban fantasy, MYTHOLOGICAL SAM, and enjoyed a surge in my Amazon sales from this post. (Thank you, Melissa Cabrera!) So, I am taking Internet book reviews very seriously. Here?s the book. Feel free to check out the gratifying book review:

Now, granted, this is only one review, but I have posted this opinion on Facebook, Twitter, my email signature, other writer?s groups, and now here on this fabulous blog page. FOR FREE. That suddenly gives this review multiple opportunities for exposure.

Do I care if my reviewer is educated? Respected? Influential? Hell, no. Although I?m sure she is, what truly matters, is that she liked the book enough to give it 5-Stars and rave about it to everyone she knows. She?s starting a buzz for me, and that?s priceless. Word of mouth on the Internet is how ?viral? gets born.

So, while still courting radio, TV and print media for reviews, I?m putting my money (which isn?t requiring much, I might add) on Internet marketing, which includes free book review blog sites and interviews. Internet marketing is something I can actively target and control (until it happily and wishfully goes viral, of course). I will do the same with my book being released next year through my publisher, as well. I?ll keep you posted on whether or not my efforts prove profitable. It?ll make an interesting study.

Many who study intellectual property law, world economics, and politics are talking about China?? ?Is there cause for alarm? What does it say about the United States?? Are we being outpaced?

The talk stems from the fact that China?s overall economy is growing like gangbusters.? Specifically, and relevant to the field of intellectual property, China?s patent volume is estimated to exceed two former patent leaders, Japan and the U.S., in the number of patents issued in the year 2011.

China?s innovation and growth

China experienced a 26.1% growth in the number of patents issued from 2003-2009.? During this same time period, the U.S. experienced a 5.5% growth.

Significantly, it wasn?t just the number of patents that is cause for concern.? China?s patent composition, technology growth, societal contributions, and quality of patents are all improving exponentially.?

The Chinese government?s policies, including research and development tax deductions, are spurring innovation.

How China is blowing everyone else, including the U.S., out of the water

China?s government is encouraging innovation and the development of new products to be patented by providing tax deductions, as mentioned above, and by offer special categories of patents such as ?utility? patents.

Although utility patents only offer 10 years of patent protection, they have a simplified patent application process.? In fact, two years ago (2009), one half of the patents issued in China fell into the utility patent category.

As China?s economy transforms from agricultural to technological, the number of high tech patents issued each year is booming.?

In intellectual property discussions, there is always the quality versus quantity discussions about patents.? The U.S. Patent Trademark Office (PTO) has stated that they wish to emphasize the quality of patents sought and issued, not quantity.? In fact, the PTO has stopped issuing its formerly annual list of the top 10 patent holding companies.

China seems to understand this quality versus quantity and it appears they are issuing quality patents as many patents issued are for new innovations, not minor improvements on existing inventions.

In early 1970s Peru, a thick ideological line designated what was "national" and what was "foreign." A military junta had recently come to power, bent on remaking the nation in its image. Constitutional protections were suspended. But for the first time, the nation's long-repressed indigenous groups were given land rights and cultural recognition. Rockers were caught in the crosshairs of a fraught ideological battleground. Such were the historical forces that shaped Traffic Sound, arguably Peru's most important progressive rock band of the era.

Traffic Sound had its origins in the breakup at the end of 1967 of one of the more popular cover bands of the period, Los Hang Ten's. Manuel Sanguinetti, lead singer for Los Hang Ten's, brought with him two other members of the band along with ex-members of another well-known group, Los Mads. They were now a supergroup and one of the favored bands at Lima's "temple of Peruvian psychedelia," the Tiffany Club, where their repertoire consisted of English-language covers of The Doors, Cream and Jimi Hendrix. Still, the songs were good enough to be released as singles and then as a compilation LP, A Bailar Go-Go, in the fall of 1968 on Peru's premier record label, MAG.

Then that October came the coup. Musical venues were shut down. Radio stations were discouraged from disseminating all forms of rock, especially locally produced rock. Many groups simply disbanded. Yet Traffic Sound forged ahead. They shelved the covers that had launched their career and dedicated themselves to writing and recording original music. But the band had little interest in toeing the official line of indigenous cultural nationalism. Despite or perhaps because of the ideological forces at play, the period of 1969-73 is recalled as the heyday of progressive rock in Peru.

Revolutionary groups, inspired by events in Cuba, were afoot. But the coup leadership paradoxically took inspiration as much from Cuba as from neighboring Brazil and Argentina, where right-wing militaries had recently seized control. Peru's new junta aimed to co-opt the revolutionary left. It did so by implementing its own top-down radical economic and social program. Lima's bustling, consumer-driven rock scene became a casualty of the military's left-wing agenda.

In January 1970, MAG released Traffic Sound's Virgin, the first Peruvian rock album made up entirely of original compositions. Every song on the album was written in English. Moreover, aside from some subtle conga drumming, the obvious musical references were to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and other progressive rock groups of the era, not to the "Andean Folkloric" sounds being promoted by the regime and the nation's intellectuals. This seeming turn away from Peru's cultural heritage shared much in common with Mexico's La Onda Chicana of the same period (subject for a future post), where most of the bands wrote original compositions in English. And it was in stark contrast with groups such as Los Jaivas in Chile, which explicitly sought to create a fusion of rock and indigenous music.

One song in particular from Virgin, "Meshkalina" (Mescaline) vaulted Traffic Sound to international stardom. Backed by a psychedelic-laden funk beat, the song's lyrics playfully managed to mock the regime's one-note cultural nationalism while furtively celebrating an indigenous drug counterculture. "Yawar Huaca [an early Incan ruler] wondered why he was high once/ . . . Spread the weed one day, all over his empire/. . . He said 'Man it's here, let's try my new substance/Give me some meshkalina/Give me some meshkalina.'" (Meshkalina is a reference to the "Peruvian Torch" cactus found in the highlands of Peru and known for its hallucinogenic properties.)

The last song on the album is an instrumental piece titled simply "Last Song." A beautiful elegy, it offers a window into the soul-searching that wracked the youth of this generation, buffeted as they were by competing and often contradictory ideological calls to arms:

In May 1970, a major earthquake struck northern Peru, killing nearly 80,000 people and leaving more than 500,000 homeless. The regime was shaken as well. Carlos Santana arrived to play a series of benefit concert and was met by more than 3,000 fans at the airport. Two days before a concert at the massive stadium at San Marcos University, the stage mysteriously burned down. The university's left-wing student organization had denounced the event as "an imperialist invasion." The junta concurred. Santana and his band were ejected from the country, accused by the regime of "acting contrary to good taste and the moralizing objectives of the revolutionary government."

Yet Traffic Sound remained prodigious in their output. That same year they recorded a second original LP, Traffic Sound. The songs reflected an experimental integration of Latin percussion and Andean-inspired woodwinds. Still, the band's strength was its "international" psychedelic sound. English remained the language of choice.

Soon after that they were contracted by Braniff Airlines to promote the company's new line of 747s. As odd as it seems, contracting Traffic Sound actually made some sense: The company had already embraced a daring marketing strategy of wrapping their planes in brilliant Pop Art colors. With Braniff as their sponsor, Traffic Sound took their music to Chile, Argentina and Brazil in 1971, representing a very different image abroad of "revolutionary Peru."

Later that year, Traffic Sound released Lux. It would be their final LP. The album was more eclectic than previous projects and its m?lange of genres is somewhat unsettling. Heavy metal-influenced riffs on one track are followed on the next by lighthearted m?sica tropical. In that regard, it was a perfect reflection of a country ? an entire generation ? experiencing a profound uncertainty.

"To hell with your revolution" proclaims the opening line and refrain of the song "The Revolution." Peru's countercultural youth were caught in the middle. Better to live and let live. Another song from the album, "Survival," nicely captures the nostalgia for an era of comparative innocence, before the fear of military police in the streets and left-wing guerrillas in the mountains: "If you would like to live/If you would like to see/If you would like to breathe/You first must try to understand/That simple things are just enough/To find the loving kind/And see the brighter day/To live within ourselves":

By early 1972, the band had decided to call it quits. In a fundamental sense, the break-up of Traffic Sound brought Peru's progressive rock era to a close. As elsewhere in Latin America, a dynamic rock scene had been cut short by a combination of government repression and left-wing abuse.

A principios de la d?cada de 1970 en Per?, hab?a una estricta divisi?n ideol?gica entre lo nacional y lo extranjero. Una junta militar hab?a subido al poder, dedicada a reconstruir la identidad nacional. Las protecciones constitucionales fueron suspendidas. Pero por primera vez, los grupos ind?genas, hist?ricamente reprimidos, fueron otorgados tierra y reconocimiento cultural. De un d?a para el otro, los roqueros peruanos se encontraron en medio de una batalla ideol?gica. Estas fueron las fuerzas hist?ricas que moldearon a Traffic Sound, una de las bandas mas importantes de del rock peruano de esta ?poca.

Traffic Sound origin? en 1967 con la ruptura de una de las bandas mas importantes de esa era, Los Hang Ten's, quienes se dedicaban a tocar covers. Manuel Sanguinetti, el l?der vocalista de Los Hang Ten's, trajo con el a dos otros miembros de la banda, y tambi?n a ex integrantes de otra banda conocida, Los Mads. As? fue que se form? un s?per grupo, una de las bandas favoritas que tocaban en el Tiffany Club, "el templo de la m?sica psicod?lica peruana." El repertorio de Traffic Sounds consist?a en covers en ingl?s de The Doors, Cream and Jimi Hendrix. Aun as?, las canciones eran lo suficientemente buenas como para ser publicadas por la discogr?fica m?s importante de Per?, MAG, primero como singles, y luego en un compilado LP llamado A Bailar A Go-Go, en el oto?o de 1968.

La junta militar busc? adoptar las ideas de la izquierda revolucionaria. As? fue que implement? sus propios programas econ?micos y sociales revolucionarios. La explosiva escena de rock lime?o, cay? victima de la pol?tica izquierdista del gobierno militar peruano.

En Enero de 1970, MAG estren? Virgin de Traffic Sound?el primer ?lbum de rock peruano que consist?a completamente en canciones originales. Todas las canciones del ?lbum estaban escritas en ingl?s. M?s aun, aparte de un sutil ritmo de conga, el ?lbum estaba fuertemente influenciado por Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, los Beatles, y otros grupos de rock progresivos de la era, y no los sonidos "folcl?ricos andinos" promovidos por el gobierno y los intelectuales. Este aparente rechazo de la herencia cultural peruana, se parec?a mucho a La Onda Chicana en M?xico, la cual ocurri? durante la misma ?poca (hablaremos mas sobre este movimiento en el futuro), y tambi?n se trat? de bandas nacionales escribiendo canciones en ingl?s. Era un fuerte contraste con grupos como Los Jaivas en Chile, quienes expl?citamente buscaban crear una fusi?n entre el rock y la m?sica ind?gena. Hay una canci?n en particular del ?lbum Virgin, llamada "Meshkalina", que lanz? a Traffic Sound al estrellato internacional. Construida sobre un tiempo de funk psicod?lico, las letras de la canci?n logran burlarse del nacionalismo del gobierno militar, y a la vez celebran, furtivamente, la contracultura ind?gena de las drogas. "Yawar guaca [lider Inca] se preguntaba porque estaba volando/...un d?a esparci? la yerba, por todo el imperio/...dijo "Hombre, aqu? esta, probemos mi nueva substancia/Dame un poco de mezcalina/Dame un poco de Meshkalina." (Meshkalina se refiere al cactus que crece en los altos del Per?, conocido por sus propiedades alucin?genas).

La ?ltima canci?n del disco es una pieza instrumental, simplemente titulada "?ltima Canci?n." Se trata de una bella eleg?a, y nos da una idea de la confusi?n espiritual que viv?a la juventud peruana de esa generaci?n, golpeada por ambas facciones de una guerra ideol?gica.

En Mayo de 1970, un terrible terremoto ocurri? en el norte de Per?, matando a casi 80,000 personas, y dejando a mas de 500,000 sin hogar. El gobierno militar tambi?n se vio afectado. Carlos Santana lleg? al pa?s a tocar una serie de conciertos ben?ficos, y fue recibido por m?s de 3,000 fans en el aeropuerto. Las organizaciones estudiantiles de izquierda denunciaron al evento musical como parte de "la invasi?n imperialista." La junta militar estaba de acuerdo. Dos d?as antes del concierto en el masivo estadio de la Universidad de San Marcos, el escenario misteriosamente se incendi?. Santana y su banda fueron expulsados del pa?s, acusados por el r?gimen de "actuar en contra del buen gusto y de los objetivos morales del gobierno revolucionario peruano."

A pesar de todo esto, Traffic Sound continu? siendo una banda sumamente prol?fica. Ese mismo a?o grabaron su segundo LP, Traffic Sound. Las canciones de este ?lbum integraban sonidos experimentales de percusi?n latina, e instrumentos Andinos. Sin embargo, el enfoque de la banda sigui? siendo el sonido "internacional" psicod?lico. Y el ingl?s sigui? siendo el idioma de preferencia.

A poco de realizar su segundo LP, Traffic Sound fue contratado por Aerol?neas Braniff para promover los nuevos aviones 747. Puede parecer extra?o contratar a una banda de rock para promover una l?nea de aviones, pero fue una jugada bien calculada: Braniff hab?a implementado una atrevida estrategia de marketing al pintar sus aviones en llamativos colores psicod?licos, al estilo del arte pop. Con Braniff como sponsor, en 1971 Traffic Sounds logr? llevar su m?sica a Chile, Argentina y Brasil, proyectando as? una imagen muy distinta del "Per? revolucionario."

Mas tarde ese a?o, Traffic Sounds public? Lux, su ?ltimo LP. Este ?lbum fue mas ecl?ctico que los previos proyectos de la banda, y su mezcla de g?neros es algo desconcertante. Canciones con riffs inspirados en la m?sica heavy metal coexisten con divertidas melod?as tropicales. En ese aspecto, Lux refleja el clima que se viv?a en Per? en 1971: Una generaci?n entera viv?a una inmensa incertidumbre y confusi?n.

"?Al Diablo Con Tu Revoluci?n!" comienza la canci?n "La Revoluci?n." La contracultura de la juventud peruana estaba atrapada. Era mejor vivir, y dejar vivir. Otra canci?n de ?lbum "Supervivencia" es un retrato de nostalgia por la era de la inocencia; antes de que los corazones peruanos fuesen invadidos por el terror a la polic?a militar en las calles, y las guerrillas izquierdistas en los montes: "Si te gustar?a vivir/Si te gustar?a ver/Si te gustar?a respirar/Primero debes tratar de entender/Que las cosas simples son lo ?nico que importa/Para encontrar la gente llena de amor/Y ver un d?a mejor/Para vivir dentro de nosotros mismos."

A principios de 1972, Traffic Sound se desband?. La era del rock progresivo peruano hab?a llegado a su fin. As? como en otras partes de America Latina, una din?mica escena del rock latino fue aplastada por la combinaci?n de un gobierno represivo, y abusos de la izquierda pol?tica.
