The Open: Justin Rose insists he will not be ... - BBC World News

Justin Rose has said he will not be phased by being paired with Tiger Woods at The Open and that facing the former world No.1 in the UK represented ?more of a level playing field?. Woods, who could regain the world?s top spot come Sunday night, is amongst the players who have expressed concern over the rough at Royal Lytham and St Anne?s, but organisers have defended the set-up. ?The rough is up but the course is reasonably generous on width and most of the players seem happy with it, at least those I have spoken to, maybe 20 or so,? said Peter Dawson, the chief executive of the Royal & Ancient. ?It?s nature. We are not starting bailing rough on seaside courses. It grows in the month before the championship. ?Some years we have a dry summer [and] you get wispy rough; in wetter warmish conditions you get thick rough and a softer course. We don?t cut the rough other than the first and second cut.? Fans will be closely following Rose and Woods, who are joined by Sergio Garcia in their 9:42am tee-off, as well as defending Open champion Darren Clarke who has been paired with Ernie Els.
