Huawei to expand its R&D efforts in Japan

It?s a sign of times or something when major Chinese companies are expanding their presence in Japan rather than the other way round. In that sense we have a story involving Huawei which will open a new R&D facility in Yokohama, where two of its existing R&D centers will be relocated from Tokyo. Moreover, the new facility will employ 80 to 100 researchers, more than doubling the current 40 staff at the two Tokyo bases.

According to Huawei, the new R&D center will enable it to better respond to the needs of Japanese customers and ?enhance development of new products and technologies.?

The Huawei group procured parts and modules worth $900 million from Japanese suppliers in fiscal 2012 and plans to double the figure in several years. The company keeps growing like crazy with its newly announced Ascend P6 expecting to cross the 10 million units shipped. That?s a bold goal though we tend to believe it can be reached due to the phone?s sexy look and feel?
