Redrik the Cowardly Bastard.

Redrik.

Redrik the bastard.

Redrik the coward. Redrik the fat. Redrik the meek.

Redrik gritted his teeth as he gripped the wooden spear haft. He had never been so terrified in his entire life. The giant was enormous, easily taller than any building in the village. It bellowed a hellish roar and shattered through the wooden palisade with contemptible ease. His body wanted to run, he wanted to scream, throw down his sharpened stick and flee for his life.

But he couldn't.

Rus and Varag stood on either side of him, their knuckles white as they squeezed their own spears. Rus, who stood on his right, gave him a hard look; his piercing blue eyes seeming to glow above his thick black beard.

"I see you take one step back, Redrik Yulestone, and I'll cut your feet off, that you might never run again." Rus' voice was like two stone being ground against each other. For just a moment, Redrik was more afraid of him than the giant.

Redrik clenched his jaw tightly, and dug his heels into the dirt. The dirt that he had been born from, the dirt that he would return too when he died. He wouldn't run, not again, not ever again. The tower behemoth strode closer, every lumbering step ringing in Redrik's ears like funeral bells. In every way, the giant was the very antithesis of Redrik himself. Impossibly tall and lanky, but also incredibly strong and fearless. In contrast, Redrik was short and squat, with a fat stomach, flabby arms, and a coward.

But none of that mattered now. This was his home. This villain from the Outside had come here, to his village, to kill, steal, and destroy. How could he run, when the only place he had ever run too was here?

"No." Redrik replied, surprised at the steel in his own voice. "Don't worry about me Rus."

He heard a throaty chuckle to his left. Varag nudged him with his shoulder.

"Dat's da spirit laddy! Dontcha worry aboot dis biggun', he'll fall like all da rest!" He exclaimed, an insane beard splitting his grey beard in half.

From somewhere behind them, a voice screamed.

"LOOSE VOLLEY!"

(More to come.)
