Best Hotels of 2012 | Andrew Rivkin Travel

Every year Travel + Leisure (TravelandLeisure.com), a top resource for world travel guides, articles, news and information, polls its readers in an attempt to gain insight on which hotels, destinations and businesses represent the very best in travel. Well the results are in for 2012, and the 17th annual World?s Best Awards have determined the most popular spots to rest one?s head while traveling. In this Andrew Rivkin Travel review we?re only going to focus on the top hotels for now, but full results from the World?s Best Awards brought to you by Travel + Leisure, can be found HERE.

Coming in at the world?s number one hotel, as voted by Travel + Leisure readers, is Singita Grumeti Reserves, located in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, and known the world over for providing Africa?s best safari experiences. We were a bit surprised to see this more adventurous resort at the top of the list, as most of us think of luxury hotels and tropical escapes when considering the most appealing travel destinations. But Singita tops this list, has been honored with many prestigious global awards and accolades, and has been voted as one of the best hotels in the world by numerous international travel publications and reader surveys.

Now, being from Toronto the Andrew Rivkin Travel Review had to highlight the best local hotel, and the Ritz-Carlton, Toronto topped the Travel + Leisure World?s Best list as number one in Ontario, Canada. Located at 181 Wellington St. W., this spectacular 267-room five-star hotel offers guests the finest in luxury and comfort. The Ritz-Carlton is Toronto?s only 5-Diamond award winning hotel, and it?s located in the heart of the city?s bustling financial and performing arts districts. In addition to impeccable service and luxury amenities, guests can enjoy a spacious outdoor terrace at DEQ Lounge with signature Ritz-Carlton Club Level service. For travelers in need of R&R, the 23,000-square-foot spa is the perfect retreat, where guests can take advantage of North America?s only Spa My Blend by Clarins, as well as a yoga studio, saltwater pool, Jacuzzi and a beauty bar. Food lovers will enjoy the dining experience at TOCA restaurant, with its walk-through pastry corridor, a glass cheese cave, and a wine cellar stocked with Canadian vintages.

In the United States, the Waldorf Astoria in Chicago was picked as the best big city hotel, and because we reviewed this Chicago hotel in a Recent Post, we?ll move on to the best resort in the United States. Osprey at Beaver Creek is located at 10 Elk Track Ln in Colorado, and offers travelers one of the finest ski vacations imaginable. Experience modern mountain elegance at a slope-side ski resort that combines contemporary design and luxury amenities, including a gourmet tapas bar and lounge with the convenience of a ski in/ski out hotel. Osprey at Beaver Creek excitement isn?t limited to wintertime, and in the summer visitors can take the lift up the mountain for one of the many incredible summer activities available, including hiking, mountain biking, ATV tours, horseback riding and more. Apres-ski, sip a glass of wine, take a dip in the heated outdoor pool or just relax at the top ski resort in the United States.
