St. John?s Antigua- Telecommunications giant LIME solidified their commitment to the Antigua & Barbuda Amateur Bodybuilding & Weightlifting Federation (ABABWF) as title sponsors of the 2011 National Bodybuilding and Figure Championships by presenting a cheque to the organisers yesterday.

Corporate Communications Manager at LIME, Paula Lee, presented the cheque to Sonya Allred, president of the national bodybuilding & weightlifting federation at the National Fitness Centre located at Campsite.

In accepting the gift Allred expressed her gratitude to LIME for the assistance.

?I think this is a fantastic thing with lime and I hope that we would be able to have a good relationship with them in future years; and that we not only increase the sport of bodybuilding but all the other sports in Antigua which I know they are heavily into. They sponsor quite a few of the other associations out there so we are very thankful for them this year,? she said.

Lee said LIME is committed to supporting communities and the development of those individuals within the communities.

She adds that LIME is playing its part in promoting a healthy lifestyle by supporting bodybuilding.

?LIME?s sponsoring of bodybuilding is not a surprise because we have made a determination that we are going to support the communities; and in helping to develop these communities, we have to consider ourselves as custodians of their health as well. Bodybuilding for us is not just about entertainment and ladies posing and the gentlemen posing and flexing; it?s about promoting healthy lifestyles,? Lee said.

?I am sure you would have heard reports that across the Caribbean diabetes is afflicting many lives and so by LIME now contributing to the promotion of healthy lifestyles, we can therefore help in the fight against diabetes and hypertension and all the other diseases that are impacting negatively on the lives of Caribbean people,? she added.

Asked if the company is in for the long haul, Lee simply drew attention to LIME?s track record where sponsorship is concerned.

?Well you know from experience from the Empire Football Club, we have sponsored that team for almost 20 years. We are with Hell?s Gate now for over 20 years (and) we are with LIME Old Road now. So if you look at the trend of LIME sponsorship, we are there for the long haul just like our business is in the Caribbean for the long haul. We have been here for over 150 years so anything that we do, we want to do it well. There is quality and there is also quantity, meaning we want to be there for the long haul,? she said.

The national bodybuilding championships will commence at 8 pm tomorrow at the Simon Bolivar Park. Tickets for the show cost $50 and can be purchased at gyms across the island and from the El Taco Loco Restaurant on Redcliffe Street.
