Spain aware of video of 3 kidnapped Europeans (AP)

MADRID ? Spain's government has seen a video that shows two Spaniards and an Italian who were kidnapped in Algeria in October, an official said Tuesday.

A Foreign Ministry statement said Spain has informed the families of the two Spaniards, a man and a woman. They and the Italian woman are aid workers who were abducted Oct. 23 in refugee camps for people from the disputed Western Sahara, which borders Algeria.

The statement gave no details, saying only that Spain was working with governments from the region to secure the release of the captives.

A ministry official said only that Spanish officials had viewed the video. He declined further comment. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with ministry rules.

North Africa's branch of al-Qaida denied last Friday that it had kidnapped the three aid workers.
